From Achill. Rooted in
Surf, Craic, and Community.

More Than a
Surf School

Soundwave is where surfing, music, and community meet on the wild edge of Ireland. Based on Keel Beach, Achill Island, we’re proud to be registered with the Irish Surfing Association — delivering lessons, SUP sessions, and sauna experiences that blend adventure with local soul. Whether you’re here to ride waves, paddle calm waters, or unwind in The Rust Box Sauna, Soundwave is all about connection — to nature, to people, and to Achill itself.

From Local Shores
to Global Waves

Soundwave was founded in 2021 by Achill native Graham Sweeney — a surfer, musician, and all-round creative soul. Graham caught his first wave on Keel Beach at just eight years old, borrowing an old board that sparked a lifelong passion. Years later, after travelling the world to surf and perform music in places like California, Mexico, and Brazil, he found himself back home when the world slowed down in 2020.

Rather than waiting for things to restart, Graham decided to build something new — something rooted in Achill’s raw beauty and creative energy. Soundwave Surf School was born: a small, welcoming surf community that celebrates everything he loves most — surfing, music, culture, and classic island craic.

A Place That
Reflects the Island

Soundwave is based on the grounds of the Bervie Guesthouse, right on the western end of Keel Beach. It’s a spot unlike anywhere else — where the ocean meets rugged dunes, and the air is filled with salt, laughter, and the steady hum of waves.

On-site, you’ll find Lílí Bán Café, a cosy garden café serving locally roasted Bean West Coffee, homemade treats, and friendly conversation. Whether you’re here for a surf lesson, a sauna session, or just a good coffee after a swim, Soundwave is about slowing down, soaking it all in, and sharing the moment.
